Independence

Ohio and Eric Canal Towpath Trail, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Independence, OhioIndependence is a city situated on 9.7 square miles at the intersection of I-480 and I-77, "The Heart of Cuyahoga County".  It is 12 minutes south of Downtown Cleveland, 15 minutes east of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and 15 minutes north of Akron. As of the census of 2010, there were 7,133 people, 2,770 households, and 2,054 families residing in the city.

A major hub of activity with 12 major hotels, restaurants, and convention centers, Independence has 4.5 million square feet of office space. Independence is also the home of the NBA World Champion Cleveland Cavaliers training facility.

But he city of Independence is not just about commercial spaces and business . . . it has 1,337 total acres of parkland located in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, one of the most beautiful national parks in the country, Elmwood Park and the West Creek/Cuyahoga River Confluence Project.  This expansive green space provides recreation opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy the city park system's facilities and programs as well as the beauty and wonder of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, it's system of trails, and historic railroad.

The Independence Local School District operates Independence Primary School, Independence Middle School, Independence High School, and St. Michael's Catholic School. Independence is also home to the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine.
